North Atlanta, Georgia is a census-designated place in DeKalb County. North Atlanta is one of very few former incorporated locales that existed in the United States. At Millar & Mixon, LLC, we focus our practice on representing persons seriously injured in car accidents in the North Atlanta and DeKalb County area. In 2007, according to the US Census Bureau, North Atlanta had an estimated 41,582 residents in 2007, whereas in 2000, the area had 38,579 residents.

In DeKalb County, North Atlanta residents have access to five major road arteries which traverse the county including Interstate 85, Interstate 20, Interstate 285, which circles Atlanta, Interstate 75, and Interstate 675. North Atlanta is situated on Georgia State Route 141, known as Peachtree Road NE in North Atlanta.

Until the 1960s, North Atlanta was surrounded by a mainly agricultural countryside, but as the sprawl of the metropolitan Atlanta region expanded, the areas surrounding North Atlanta became increasingly urbanized. By 1969, the eastern half of the Interstate 285 beltway, called “the Perimeter,” skirted the northeastern and southern edges of the DeKalb County, placing most of it “inside the perimeter” along with nearly all of Atlanta.

DeKalb County is one of the metro Atlanta region’s larger distribution centers, home to a large number of truck terminals. According to the National Highway Safety Administration, 4 people out of the 59 traffic fatalities recorded for the year died in DeKalb County in 2008 because of an accident involving a large truck. The car accident lawyers of Millar & Mixon, LLC have helped hundreds of clients throughout the state of Georgia recover what they are owed, including individuals involved in devastating accidents with large trucks.

North Atlanta residents involved in serious truck accidents likely have their case heard in state court. The DeKalb County State Court in Decatur hears all misdemeanor violations, including traffic cases and all civil actions, such as personal injury lawsuits, regardless of the amount claimed, unless the superior court has exclusive jurisdiction. The trial court with general jurisdiction for hearing cases involving state law is the DeKalb County Superior Court, also located in Decatur. In the Superior Court, any civil or criminal case may be tried and all felonies must be tried. If a North Atlanta resident wants to file a civil suit a person, the lawsuit should be filed in the county where the defendant lives. If a North Atlanta resident is suing a business, the lawsuit should be filed in the county where the business is run or the county where the business is incorporated.
